What is cancer?

We all know "cancer" as a disease, but not many know much more than that. So here’s a short article explaining what is “cancer”.

Our body is made up of cells. As part of the normal life cycle, the cells in the body, grow, mature, divide and die (as they replace themselves). Usually, when something goes wrong and an abnormal cell is produced - it simply dies.

Very rarely, the precise thing that goes wrong is causing the cell to grow and divide continuously leading to the production of abnormal cells that (in turn) continue to grow and divide uncontrollably.

When large enough, the mass of uncontrolled continuously growing “cancerous” cells become lumps that we can sometimes feel, or block the normal function of our organs, or cause pain or bleeding resulting in the disease we know as “cancer”.
